Inglourious Basterds (Tarantino/Horton, 2009). I haven’t seen the Tarantino film scheduled for release in August. I dreamt this one last night. Went to the theater, got the ticket, sat down and watched the entire film. Very strange: the style was a lot like Bresson’s Lancelot du Lac, full of quiet scenes and tiny shifts of facial expression. Brad Pitt was in it very little, maybe just a scene at the beginning and end. When it was over, I remember thinking “That was not what I expected at all.” Five minutes later I realized I hadn’t actually watched the real movie.
The Girl from Monaco (Anne Fontaine, 2008). Peculiar mix of comedy and melancholy and inexplicable lead female character. But it has one of my favorite actors in it, Fabrice Luchini, doing a characteristic role. (full review 7/24)
