Seven Pounds (Gabriele Muccino, 2008). The poster is kind of a throwback to six or seven years ago or so, when an unadorned head shot of a star was enough to sell a movie: here’s Will Smith. What more do you need to know? (full review 12/19)

Nothing Like the Holidays (Alfredo De Villa, 2008). The family-holiday-squabble movie gone Latino, with a bunch of people (Alfred Molina, Freddy Rodriguez, Elizabeth Pena) you’d rather see in something good. But they have to be in this, because it fills a gap in the release schedule. (full review 12/12)

My Name is Bruce (Bruce Campbell, 2008). Indefensible but hard to dislike, this is the estimable Mr. Campbell’s low-budget JCVD, without the good reviews. (full review 12/12)
