Movie Diary 5/13/2009

The Yes Men Fix the World (Andy Bichlbaum, Mike Bonnaro, Kurt Engfehr; 2009). New doc with the anti-corporate pranksters, whose shtick gets repetitious but nevertheless offers some funny moments.

A Cottage on Dartmoor (Anthony Asquith, 1929). Hmm, I watch this a few days after doing my best-of-1929 accounting? I call that poor planning. Not sure this would’ve made the cut, but its peculiar mix of humor and melodrama contains some very clever moviemaking, especially during a long sequence at “the talkies” (this one’s silent), during which we never actually see the screen at the theater. Theatre. Whatever.
