Movie Diary 6/15/2009

The Merry Gentleman (Michael Keaton, 2008). Well, this is unexpected: an impeccably written (by Ron Lazzeretti) and coolly directed film on a subject that ought to be played out by now, the weary hit man. Kelly Macdonald and Keaton are very good, and the two detectives involved, one of whom kind of gets romantically interested in Macdonald’s character, are equally good; you’ve probably not seen them on screen before: Tom Bastounes and Guy Van Swearingen.
