Movie Diary 10/13/2010

Fair Game (Doug Liman, 2010). The Valerie Plame story, just begging for an All the President’s Men-style approach, gets something other than that here. Naomi Watts and Sean Penn are the D.C. power couple out-manuevered by Turdblossom & Co. (full review 11/?)

I Love You, Alice B. Toklas! (Hy Averback, 1968). Peter Sellers, tuning in and dropping out, all according to a Paul Mazursky/Larry Tucker script. Sometimes you can see what Sellers was going for here, sometimes not – but whatever it is, it only intermittently works. This stems from the brief theatrical flowering of director Averback, who directed about a thousand TV shows, or so it seemed at the time.
