Movie Diary 12/6/2010

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (Michael Apted, 2010). It’s not even all that badly executed, it’s just that after spending time in Narnia some of us have the urge to ring the bell for unbelief and faithlessness. So ding-dong. (full review 12/10)

The Company Men (John Wells, 2010). If somebody tries to tell you that the importance of the director is overrated and that, for instance, the cinematographer defines such things as the visual look of a movie, please point out to him that the great Roger Deakins photographed this film, and see how that goes. (full review 1/?)

Strange Powers: Stephin Merritt and the Magnetic Fields (Kerthy Fix, Gail O’Hara, 2010). Good background on a great band. The interlude about past rumors/allegations that Merritt is somehow Caucasian-centric in his tastes is a great example of what happens when stupid people speak on the Internet and the original stupid thing gets amplified by twelve times stupid.
