Movie Diary 1/5/2011

Country Strong (Shana Feste, 2010). Some admirably rough edges on all the characters, plus Gwyneth Paltrow and an appealing enough cast. One thing after another happens until it ends. This was the first big screening of the new year, and all the people who get free passes were there again. Sigh. (full review 1/7)

Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench (Damien Chazelle, 2009). Almost getting there, with this blend of Cassavetes and Donen. Curious about what the director does next, at least. (full review 1/7)

New/old 1980s reviews posted at my other website, What a Feeling!: a twofer on Haunted Honeymoon and Maximum Overdrive (hey, they opened on the same day); and Red Scorpion, a Dolph Lundgren picture produced by Jack Abramoff.
