Movie Diary 2/1/2011

Sanctum (Alister Grierson, 2011). 3-D cameras, dunked into service for a James Cameron adventure thing in underwater caves. James Franco’s hiker would never have made it. By the way, have you ever had a person in the theater get up and walk in front of your sightline while you’re watching a 3-D movie? Freaky. (full review 2/4)

Nénette (Nicholas Philibert, 2010). The director of the superb To Be and To Have focuses his gaze on orangutans behind the glass at the Jardin des Plantes in Paris. And you know how awesome orangutans are. (full review 2/4)

Over at my other website, What a Feeling!: I hate to bring these things out, but you don’t get the decade unless you get this kind of crap: Police Academy 2: Back in Training.

And tomorrow (Wednesday) morning, on my regular 10:20 a.m. time slot on KUOW-FM (94.9, kuow.org), we’ll talk about John Barry and how movie music changes us.
