Movie Diary 5/12/2011

Submarine (Richard Ayoade, 2010). Another lad comes of age, and even gives his first girlfriend a copy of The Catcher in the Rye, as though to anticipate the critics. It’s beginning to look as though the most influential director of the last 15 years is Wes Anderson. (Screens at Seattle International Film Festival)

Buck (Cindy Meehl, 2011). A guy who might have been the real-life “horse whisperer” tells his story and shows his art. See this movie and you will never make fun of the phrase “horse whisperer” again. (Screens at SIFF)

The First Grader (Justin Chadwick, 2010). This is the Seattle International Film Festival’s opening night film. So there you have that. (Screens at SIFF)

What a Feeling!, my other website, plows through some primo John Hughes titles with a review of Pretty in Pink.
