Movie Diary 8/9/2011

Our Idiot Brother (Jesse Peretz, 2011). How do you pull off a movie like this – realism or Preston Sturgesian style? Since the latter is in very short supply in this age, you can guess which way they went. Meanwhile, Paul Rudd and Peretz’s The Chateau remains an underappreciated comedy. (full review 8/26)

Videodrome (David Cronenberg, 1983). Watching this again after a long long time, it remains a movie crammed with interesting ideas and gloriously strange moments. Having said that, I do think the advance from this to Cronenberg’s Dead Ringers five years later is pretty dramatic.

At my other website, What a Feeling!, a pause for that very rare 1980s phenomenon, a classy movie comedy: All of Me.
