Movie Diary 8/15/2011

Griff the Invisible (Leon Ford, 2010). Aussie variation on the popular subgenre of regular people who act like superheroes. Has some ideas in its head. (full review 8/26)

50/50 (Jonathan Levine, 2011). Curious combo-picture, an R-rated inspirational illness movie, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen coming together like creatures from different worlds. (full review 9/30)

Delicatessen (Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Marc Caro, 1991). The clockwork tickings of some wacky brains at play; the movie’s clean comedy makes you wonder how much Jeunet needed Caro around.

Repo Man (Alex Cox, 1984). A fond look back at a movie that genuinely captures something in its Moment. Uncanny how good Harry Dean Stanton is. For my initial impression, see here.

Over at the ol’ What a Feeling!, more on the 1980s with a take on WarGames, a film by John Badham (and at least partly by Martin Brest).
