Movie Diary 1/3/2012

Young Adult (Jason Reitman, 2011). A big step forward from Juno, anyway, for the Reitman-Diablo Cody partnership, and Charlize Theron is excellent. The final few minutes are especially astringent in mocking the uplift of most Hollywood redemption stories.

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (Stephen Daldry, 2011). A kid and his response to September 11, filled out with an extremely, indeed incredibly, qualified cast. Tom Hanks isn’t onscreen much, and one sort of takes him for granted as the ideal dad, but it should be said that he has a couple of remarkable moments. (full review 1/20)

At What a Feeling!, we revisit a very, very bad 1980s title, Youngblood, a film by l’auteur de Hot Dog…The Movie, Peter Markle.
