Movie Diary 3/5/2012

John Carter (Andrew Stanton, 2012). And here’s a new pain in my ongoing headache about what movies are actually titled: the opening credit says John Carter, the final reads John Carter of Mars, which was the film’s working title. In any case, Edgar Rice Burroughs could never have imagined, 100 years ago, that his fantasia would go digital like this.

Tower Heist (Brett Ratner, 2011). Except for the absence of the original profanity, this is not a bad movie to watch on a plane. Maybe it looked worse on the big screen, but once the laborious exposition of the first half-hour gets past, a few funny moments do come along.
