Movie Diary 4/30/2012

They Live by Night (Nicholas Ray, 1949). I watch this movie so often, I run out of two-sentence comments about it. However, the opening sequences aren’t quite like anything else, in case you didn’t know.

Gun Crazy (Joseph H. Lewis, 1949). It’s nice when two crazy kids find each other. Where the young lovers on the run are innocents in They Live by Night, they’re pretty much depraved here. This movie sure barrels along like nobody’s business.

Death of a Superhero (Ian Fitzgibbon, 2011). Boy with cancer, crusty psychologist, who wants to die a virgin?, that sort of thing. (full review 5/4)

The Avengers (Joss Whedon, 2012). A movie that does just what it wants to do. And one thing it wants to do is colonize you. (full review 5/4)

At What a Feeling!, recall the supposed franchise-starter Action Jackson, which never got past the Remo Williams stage.
