Movie Diary 10/3/2012

Butter (Jim Field Smith, 2011). The Iowa butter-carving competition loses its grand master, which opens the field for a Palin-esque wannabe, played by Jennifer Garner. While this movie aims at the vibe of a Christopher Guest ensemble comedy, it strongly suggests that such things should be left to the experts (there’s evidence that Ty Burrell and Rob Corddry could fit nicely into the Guest world, but everybody else here is pushing too hard).
