In Another Head (Weekly Links)

Hoult and Corddry: the dead walk, barely

Links to reviews I wrote this week for the Herald, and etc.

Warm Bodies. “This knee-slapper is repeated over the course of the next 90 minutes.”

Bullet to the Head. “The macho joshing is half-hearted at best.”

In Another Country. “Light on its feet.”

Oscar-nominated shorts films.

On KUOW’s “Weekday,” I talk with Steve Scher about the recent flop of The Last Stand and the imminent arrival of Bullet to the Head, and whether this indicates the end of the 1980s. It’s archived here.

I shall be live-tweeting (or is it just tweeting?) Monday night Feb. 4, on the subject of the Museum of History and Industry’s “Celluloid Seattle: A City at the Movies” exhibit, for which I acted as curator. This occurs between 7 and 8 p.m., and means I will mix it up, 140 characters-style, with anyone who wants to ask a question or make a comment. My handle is @citizenhorton; @MOHAI does it for the museum.

Wednesday, February 6, join me for “End of the Trail: How the Western Movie Rode Into the Sunset,” a free talk in the Humanities Washington Speakers Bureau program, at Sammamish Library in Sammamish, WA. That’s at 7 p.m.; more info on the talk here, and the location here.

I am filing some blog posts on the subject of local moviemaking, in conjunction with the new season of Reel NW on KCTS channel 9. You can check that out and watch some local films here.

At What a Feeling!, my website of 1980s reviews, pause to consider Michael Ritchie’s The Couch Trip and John Mackenzie’s The Fourth Protocol.
