Beyond No Host (Weekly Links)

Gael Garcia Bernal: No.

Gael Garcia Bernal: No.

Links to reviews I wrote this week for the Herald, and etc.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation. “Overbearing.”

The Host. “Quasi-Valley Girl patter pops out at the strangest moments.”

No. “A feel-good exercise in deep, deep irony.”

Beyond the Hills. “The inability of people to listen to each other.”

On KUOW’s “Weekday,” I talk with Steve Scher (and callers) about On the Road and the phenomenon of long-cherished books being adapted into movies. It’s archived here.

Next Friday, join the talkers of Framing Pictures as they sort through a variety of movie subjects. That’s at 5 p.m. at the Northwest Film Forum. Likely topics include the lauded documentary Leviathan and Room 237, the study of supposed meanings in The Shining. Which means we get to talk about Stanley Kubrick’s opus as well. Check the FP Facebook page for more details.
