Judgment Day: Intelligent Design on Trial (Gary Johnstone, Joseph McMaster, 2007). Had been meaning to watch this “Nova” episode for a long time. One deplores the reenactments and the music, but otherwise this gives a good account of the Dover, Pennsylvania, case in which a local school board – acting with “breathtaking inanity,” in the indelible words of the judge in the trial – tried to shove “intelligent design” into science class. The spectacle is both gratifying and scary. The Seattle-based Discovery Institute, a prime shover of “intelligent design,” is prominently mentioned, though its fellows proved too bashful to agree to be interviewed.
