Movie Diary 9/10/2013

Gravity (Alfonso Cuarón, 2013). I have no quarrel with anybody who observes that the ideas of this movie are simple. But  movies aren’t just ideas, and hoo boy, does this baby ever take you somewhere. (full review 10/4)

El Topo (Alejandro Jodorowsky, 1970). Yeah, it was a trippy day: All aboard for some good old derangement of the senses. I still remember reading about this movie in a contemporary issue of Esquire or something, and how the shocking act of blasphemy that I imagined is actually well beyond what the movie actually is. But still, hey, it blasphemes – it blasphemes. Good-looking DVD version, too.
