Movie Diary 2/26/2014

The Raid 2 (Gareth Evans, 2014). If you enjoy the fisticuffs, you may find this in your bailiwick. (full review 3/?)

Non-Stop (Jaume Collet-Serra, 2014). Liam Neeson, giant again, saving a plane. At one point this movie put the guy sitting next to me into a standing half-crouch, yelling and ready to fight all comers. To be fair, I think he’d woken up from a half-sleep. Either reaction is understandable. (full review 2/28)

Cutter’s Way (Ivan Passer, 1981). Remains a dreamy study of Southern California anomie, jolted into life by the prospect of something happening. Jeff Bridges, John Heard, and Lisa Eichhorn are terrific.

The Big Lebowski (Joel Coen, 1998). Still one of the Coens’ weirdest, which is saying something. Certainly one of the oddest films about the Gulf War.
