Links to reviews I wrote this week for the Herald and Seattle Weekly, and etc.

300: Rise of an Empire. “One waits impatiently for Eva Green’s imperious, kohl-eyed she-devil to stride into the scene and devour men whole.”

Mr. Peabody & Sherman. “Has a straightfoward, slightly jazzy approach to the past (even as a cartoon, it’s more convincing than 300: Rise of an Empire).”

Child’s Pose. “She reeks of clueless entitlement, yet you’d want her on your side in a street fight.”

Tim’s Vermeer. “Magicians, of all people, know there’s no actual magic, just the execution of a trick. So of course Penn and Teller would be flummoxed by genius.”

The Overlook Podcast has been crowded this week. First Steve Scher and I posted an after-Oscar Special Edition roundup of this year’s event; you can listen to that one here. And on our more regular schedule, we use the Academy’s annual “In Memoriam” tribute as a way of remembering some movie people lost in the last year, including Alain Resnais, who died earlier this week. Listen here.
