Welcome Hearts (This Week’s Movies)

Charlotte Gainsbourg and Chiara Mastroianni: 3 Hearts

Charlotte Gainsbourg and Chiara Mastroianni: 3 Hearts

Links to my reviews published this week in the Herald and Seattle Weekly, and etc.

3 Hearts. “A break from the dull naturalism of most current drama.” (In case of Herald paywall, Seattle Weekly version here.)

Welcome to New York. “So much on the table that Ferrara seems unable to choose from this menu of ideas.” (Weekly version here.)

Early warning for a talk: On Wednesday May 6 I’ll be at the Architectural Association in London, giving a public lecture titled “What Time Is It There? Time as a Character in Contemporary Films.” The talk looks at how recent filmmakers – from Bela Tarr to Christopher Nolan, with a detour for Richard Linklater – have used Time as subject and method. The talk is at 6 p.m. at the Lecture Hall. More info here.
