The Mend (John Magary, 2014). An oddball-rhythmed variation on what looks like a stock situation – bad-boy brother (Josh Lucas) comes to stay with straight-arrow sib (Stephen Plunkett) – turns into something not stock at all. Slow Learners (Don Argott, Sheena M. Joyce, 2015). Another indie rom-com in which the players seem to be at least partly improvising. When they’re as good at it as Sarah Burns and Adam Pally are, the format is very appealing. (full review 9/11)
