Links to my reviews published this week in the Herald and Seattle Weekly.

The Final Year. “It’s one of those films, like From Here to Eternity or Titanic, where you know a giant historical event is going to happen at the end and overturn all the plans made by the characters.”

Forever My Girl. “Oatmeal-bland.”

Another one in my series of Film Comment interviews with cinematographers: At the Camerimage Film Festival in Bydgoszcz, Poland, I talked to Dan Laustsen, who will probably be Oscar-nominated next week for The Shape of Water. His colorful style enhanced two other Guillermo Del Toro films, Crimson Peak and Mimic, and he also speaks of his polite opting-out of the Dogme 95 craze in his native Denmark. Read it here.
