It Name (This Week’s Movies)

Bill Skarsgard: It Chapter Two (Warner Bros.)

Links to my reviews published this week in the Herald and etc.

It Chapter Two. “Substituting breakneck editing and migraine-inducing strobe lights for actual ideas, Muschietti wants to convince you that something exciting is happening.”

David Crosby: Remember My Name. “There’s some kind of lesson there: Be full enough of spit and vinegar, and you might just survive your biggest mistakes.”

A Fall Movie Preview.

For my Seasoned Ticket post at the Scarecrow Video blog, I tell an anecdote about “I Do Not Care If We Go Down in History as Barbarians,” the new film by Romanian director Radu Jude. The film opens this week at the Beacon theater. Read here.

And also at Scarecrow, we announce the second “semester” of Scarecrow Academy, which is devoted to the films of 1959, “Cinema’s Greatest Year,” according to some. Well, according to me. We re-convene on Sep. 11 at 7 for Douglas Sirk’s Imitation of Life; see the full schedule here. The series is free.
