Movie Diary 12/4/2019

The Nun’s Story (Fred Zinnemann, 1959). A very patient approach from Zinnemann, telling the story of a woman (Audrey Hepburn) going through the process of becoming and being a nun. The subject suits the director’s meticulous approach, and actually has quite a bit of kinship with From Here to Eternity and The Day of the Jackal. No, really.

Edward Scissorhands (Tim Burton, 1990). I don’t think I’d ever re-visited this movie, which I already liked. Seeing it now, it looks like the ideal Burton film, with every shot in place and appropriate. And the fairy-tale stuff goes to its traditional conclusion, which means death is in the mix.
