Movie Diary 2/10/2020

Breathless (Jean-Luc Godard, 1960). Still brazen, still searching for something, still cool, and still a rallying cry for cinema being something different. “To become immortal, and then to die.” I’m reading Richard Brody’s biography of Godard, and it’s interesting to hear how the movie was given a very careful and orchestrated build-up as a big declaration of New Wave ideas even while it was still shooting – quite a bit of canny hype was distributed for this act of revolution.
