Columbo: Requiem for a Falling Star (Richard Quine, 1973). It must be noted that Anne Baxter is thoroughly splendid doing a grand-dame routine in this episode; she’s a former queen of the backlot who still maintains her bungalow on the studio grounds. Baxter gets the spirit of the thing completely, and she and Falk have splendid rapport. Quine’s direction feels curiously distant at times, but he must have had something to do with the zip between the actors. With Mel Ferrer, Kevin McCarthy, and a cameo from Edith Head.
