Baby Doll (Elia Kazan, 1956). Seeing this movie 40 years ago, it played as comedy of the grotesque; now it seems more serious, even with all its absurdity. Carroll Baker is great in it.
Secret Honor (Robert Altman, 1984). Philip Baker Hall in a career-changing performance as Nixon, an inspired one-man tour de force that Altman visualizes in an ingenious way.
