The Woman King (Gina Prince-Bythewood, 2022). It reminded me a little of Top Gun: Maverick, as a hopelessly corny project rendered with considerable skills. It doesn’t hurt when Viola Davis leads the way, and it’s a sizable bonus that Lashana Lynch and Sheila Atim provide such compelling support, and that John Boyega takes his king from a vaguely comical figure to a genuinely stirring one.
