Perfect Getaway Cove (Weekly Links)

Movies I reviewed for the Herald this week.

The Zahn-Jovovich honeymoon

Julie & Julia. “Blogging might not be the most exciting movie subject.”

A Perfect Getaway. “Incredibly satisfying.”

The Cove. “Could be an earth-shaker.”

The Garden. “The wheels still turn in the same crooked way.”

Paper Heart.”There’s a fine line between charming and precious.”

And for Rotten nation: have you read the secret diary of government agent John J. Flynn, which describes the period leading up the disagreeable events depicted in said comic book series? Go here and click on “Flynn’s Diary.” Issue #3 coming soon.

Movie Diary 8/3/2009

A Perfect Getaway (David Twohy, 2009). Twohy renews one’s faith in the art of B-moviemaking, even if nobody actually makes B-movies anymore – here comes an ingenious/absurd idea worked out to within an inch of its life. He should be cranking out a project every six months. And he would if I had my way. (full review 8/7)

The Burning Plain (Guillermo Arriaga, 2008). Fairly linear for Arriaga, even if the story does roll out in three or so different timeframes. It’s extremely serious. (full review 9/25)
