Torino, Valkyrie, Nixon & Me (Weekly Links)

Here are links to my Herald reviews of the Christmas crop. A typical year-end group: prestige pictures that require the seasonal shine, movies with downbeat endings (Hitler lives, the dog dies), multiplex fodder needing the overflow business (that would be a superhero movie starring…Gabriel Macht?), and a relaxed Clint Eastwood entertainment that turns out to be the best of the lot.

Seven Pounds of Timecrimes (Weekly Links)

My reviews for the Herald this week. Some kind of glitch has left the star ratings wrong, so I include them below, if that’s your bag:

And on KUOW, I talk with Jeremy Richards about a trio of overlooked 2008 movies: In Bruges, Married Life, and Priceless. Movie talk begins at 34:00 into the program: here. And click on title for a link to the Herald review: In Bruges, Married Life, Priceless.

Movie Diary 12/3/2008

Revolutionary Road (Sam Mendes, 2008) and Doubt (John Patrick Shanley, 2008). Two movies in the same day photographed by Roger Deakins is a treat all by itself, and so are the ambitions of these literary adaptations. Amongst the E-ticket performances: how do you beat Kate Winslet? (full reviews 1/2 and 12/12, respectively)
